Keeping Customers

Recently I listened to a podcast from Ralston 360view, a now defunct podcast (which by the way, I will speak about in an upcoming blog post), and he was speaking about customer retention. You can download the episode here: 360view Episode 007.

When he spoke of customer retention, he mentioned his son customizing and buying a pair of shoes from NikeID . After his son received the shoes there was no follow up from Nike.  Last year for the holidays my wife designed and purchased me some shoes from NikeID as well (see below)

Pretty nice huh? Great experience. No follow up at all. No follow up email to say congratulations on owning a pair of personally designed shoes, no email mentioning they are part of a group that has individually designed, personalized shoe. This was weird to me because designing the shoe was such an interactive process with Nike that you would think they would continue that interactivity. But no.

As I mentioned in my last post, I just bought a new Macbook. A week has went by and no email following up on my purchase. Of course I don’t expect them to personally ask for and get my response on how my new computer is doing. But how about an email congratulating me on being the new proud owner of a Macbook and inviting me back into the store for any one of the Free Workshops they offer? Even if the workshop is free, I am in the store right? Or maybe they could have let me know about their one to one program? I only know about this because I have a friend who works at the Apple store, otherwise I would never have known about it. Missed opportunity for Apple.

I just bought your product, at a premium price. Make me happy I did, keep me as a customer.

I expected more from you Apple.

New Macbook

so pretty.

Yes, I got a new Macbook.

Of course the process of purchasing the item was top notch, opening and starting the product was beautiful.

Still waiting on that follow up Apple. No follow up email, nothing.

I will discuss customer retention in greater detail in my next post. Just wanted to show off the new toy and set up the next post.
